Bradbury – Lifting Britain since 1896

When Joseph Bradbury first started making equipment for local bicycle manufacturers, little did he know that some 123 years later his company would still be a thriving entity.

Bradbury Equipment has a long history within the automotive industry, with the first four-post Bradbury lift – the 2.5 tonne Vilver – built in 1948/49. In 1954, the introduction of the Bradbury Liftmaster heralded a revolution in lifting techniques by enabling a vehicle to be lifted by its wheels or by its chassis.

Such was the popularity of this new approach to vehicle lifting that the Mk.1 version of the Liftmaster went on to sell over 22,000 units between 1962 and 1976, with the Mk.2 version selling over 8,000 units between 1975 and 1979. When the Mk.3 version arrived in 1979, it was the first lift to feature the control box at eye level.

The 1980s then saw the introduction of the Bradbury 40 Series lift, a product that has stood the test of time and is still popular today. Many thousands of this lift type can be seen in automotive workshops around the country and has been utilised by manufacturers such as Ford, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Jaguar, Landrover, and Nissan.

Over the years Bradbury has been owned by many different firms – from privately owned organisations to larger PLCs. In October 2004 the company was acquired by the family-owned Danish firm Stenhøj Group, a move which saw Bradbury move its head office to a new site in Northampton just 12 months later.

Fast forward to 2019 and the Bradbury range is sold exclusively through GEMCO Sales & Service – one of the UK’s market leaders in the supply, delivery, installation, training, calibration and maintenance of quality garage equipment. All Bradbury equipment supplied is installed by GEMCO’s network of factory trained independent engineers, of which there are in excess of 100 in operation.

Today the Bradbury range covers everything from two-post lifts, scissor lifts and four-post lifts through to ATL bays, brake testers and tyre equipment.

In spite of its long heritage at the forefront of garage equipment supply, Bradbury’s commitment to providing top quality products and to car workshops has never wavered. It’s this dedication and expertise that will ensure the company is still serving the needs of the automotive workshop for many more years to come.
