Project Description
Flexible brake testing with GEMCO’s Sherpa range
Garage equipment provider GEMCO is the exclusive agent for the Sherpa range of commercial vehicle roller brake testers and associated (ATF) test equipment.
The company offers solutions ranging from single brake testers for pre-testing fleets’ own vehicles, to entire workshop or ATF lane installations, which can include building and electrical works, after-sales services and calibration packages.
“We have a specialised team of factory-trained Sherpa brake tester engineers that provide calibrations and repairs for our customers, so wherever you are in the UK, we are too,” said GEMCO.
“As part of our commitment to our customers, we also carry a huge amount of spare parts on our vans, which ultimately ensure that our first-time fix rate is the highest it can be.
“We understand that a brake tester can be a big investment and that’s why we know that a face-to-face conversation will ensure you have all the information you need to make an informed decision.
“Our knowledgeable sales staff is here to assist you with any questions you may have. We also have a dedicated CAD design team who work alongside our sales staff to provide layout and civil drawings to assist you with the planning and application processes.”
The Sherpa brake tester range consists of three models, all of which are approved by the DVSA for ATF Testing.
The Sherpa BPS Mobile brake tester, which is ATF-approved as standard, is said to be easy to manoeuvre, and the ideal choice for workshops with limited space.
Suitable for indoor and outdoor use and designed for high usage workshops, the standard package features a tablet device for one-man operation. Test results can be stored and printed for future reference.
Meanwhile, the Sherpa BPS Twin and Kompakt 15 in-ground brake testers are ATF-approved as standard and feature the same tablet operation as the mobile machine.
The Kompakt 15 is a single-piece design with special planetary drive gearbox motors, while the BPS Twin features a higher 18-tonne axle test weight and a two-piece design making it suitable for cross-pit installation.
The Twin is also approved for tachograph calibrations, and GEMCO can integrate this functionality onto the same roller bed, allowing the single brake tester to perform two roles.
Recent customers include Fergusons Transport Ltd, which opted to fit two of the Sherpa BPS Twin 18 Class 4, 5L, 7 & ATF brake testers.
Tony Gilson, GEMCO area sales manager for the North & Scotland, commented: “Commercial brake testers can easily pay for themselves in no time, especially if you are currently outsourcing services on your commercial vehicles, and like Fergusons you offer a facility whereby customers can get their own commercial vehicles serviced…
“A solid state PC which works in conjunction with the tablet is used for operation of the machines easy-to use DVSA software programme (which is updated free at time of calibration).
“This step-by-step software guides the user through the test sequence and produces a pass/fail test result, which can be stored or printed on the supplied A4 printer.”
